The company is a global market leader in maritime safety, providing essential safety equipment for passenger and cargo vessels, offshore installations, defence and fire fighting industries, and fishing and yachting vessels.

The company’s headquarters are located in Denmark and the family owned company, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year has 52 offices worldwide & employs some 1,300 worldwide. Its products are manufactured in 2 locations in Denmark as well as Thailand.

As the market leader the company offers a choice of global safety solutions and the Product Portfolio includes marine evacuation systems, offshore evacuation and crew transfer systems, life rafts, boats, life saving appliances and protective clothing such as fire suits, life jackets, immersion suits and work suits.

The Asia region has experienced very strong & robust growth and to continue this healthy growth and to seize further opportunities to grow the business a Regional Sales & Marketing Director to cover the territories of Asia is required to be recruited.

The Regional Sales and Marketing Director is based in Singapore at the regional headquarters for Asia, and is responsible for the overall sales and marketing activities in the Asian Region.
The Position

The title will be Sales & Marketing Director and reports to your goodself as Managing Director, Asia Pacific.

The key tasks, responsibilities & challenges may be summarized as:-
  • The Sales & Marketing Director (SMD) is the overall responsible person for marketing and sales in Asia of all the company’s product and services, trade for the maritime and offshore industries as well as onshore and defence.
     
  • The SMD reports to the Managing Director, Asia Regional Office (ARO) and the SMD is a member of the regional management team in ARO.
     
  • The Sales Managers of the company in Singapore, Hong Kong and China report to the SMD and the SMD is responsible for the overall management of the Sales Departments with authority to --- in cooperation with the Sales Managers – rotate staff and employ and terminate employment of staff according to existing rules, regulations and procedures.
     
  • The SMD is responsible for all employees in the Sales Department being up-todate with information, needed sales statistics, education, training and knowledge enabling them to perform the duties required by them.
     
  • The SMD is responsible for adapting and implementing the company’s group marketing and sales strategies and setting objectives and guidelines for the total marketing and sales activities, sales calls, advertising, press releases, articles and other promotional materials and to determine which product areas etc. to concentrate on to achieve agreed objectives and obtain maximum sales, contribution margin and profit before tax in Asia.
     
  • The SMD is responsible for ensuring that the sales activities are carried out in compliance with the applicable rules and regulations internally as well as externally. The SMD is also responsible for ensuring that contracts made comply with the company’s ARO’s directions and are in accordance with current legislation in the territory.

     
  • The SMD is responsible for maintaining and improving the company’s culture, spirit and teamwork among the sales staff and to motivate them to achieve higher objectives as well as use their resources in the most efficient way to overall benefit the company.
     
  • Together with the other members of the management team the SMD is responsible for the organization of the company’s Asia’s tasks in such a way that time and resources are available for the participation in necessary activities at Group level, e.g. the annual Business Strategy Meeting normally held in September/October, sales training, product courses, etc.
     
  • The SMD is responsible for the marketing (this to include selection of shows and advertising to be done) and sales of the company and associated products in Asia.
     
  • The SMD is responsible for coordination of sales budgets and forecasts from the various sales divisions in Asia. This includes setting realistic objectives for each profit centre, market segment, product group, individual product as well as the individual sales person.
     
  • The SMD is responsible for following up on deviations to sales and costs budgets for the sales area.
     
  • The SMD is through a “hands-on” process responsible for managing key-accounts in the region.
     
  • The SMD is responsible for the timely production of adhoc and quarterly sales reporting and prognoses of the Company required internally and by the Group.
     
  • Together with the other members of the management group the SMD is responsible for selecting products to be included in the company’s APR product range and to set the marketing strategies for these products.
     
  • The SMD is responsible for calculation of cost prices for all products in the company’s Asia product range including evaluating and deciding on prices to customers.

     
  • The SMD is responsible for updating job descriptions for all employees in the Sales Departments and Customer Service Departments according to rules and procedures
     
  • Together with other members of the management group the SMD is responsible for instigating the yearly/periodical negotiation of salaries and bonuses with the employees in the Sales Departments according to the budget for Asia.
     
  • The SMD is responsible for setting up sales related activities and/or incentives and objectives to make the service stations in Asia more committed to the company.
     
  • Authorisation to make economic decisions: Sing$5,000. Other investments require approval from the MD ARO.
The Ideal Candidate  
The Ideal Candidate will be a highly motivated and result driven individual with a proven track record with at least 8 years experience in Sales & Marketing management in B2B environment and at least 3-4 years sales experience in Asia. Ideally s/he will have garnered experience working in a reputed bluechip Western, preferably European, ideally Nordic, MNC with a successful track record gained in the maritime industry.

Qualified with a Technical and/or Engineering background the Ideal Candidate will be a builder & maintainer of business relationships and will have enhanced communication skills, in both the spoken & written word in English. Fluency in Mandarin will be of distinct advantage.

Culturally adaptable for both Asian & European geographies, s/he will need to provide evidence of an ability to handle pragmatically the regional & cultural differences and ambiguities that abound in an organization with wide regional reach, a Singapore based regional office & a Danish headquartered company.

Familiarity and experience with the territories of Asia, particularly China, Korea & India, derived from having conducted extensive business operations will be sought, as will evidence of drive, resilience & energy, and a natural authority such as to engender credibility & respect at all levels within & without the organization.
